Hi everyone and welcome to Friends of the Show. I'm Kem X and I'm here with my best friend Austin, and today we're gonna discuss one of our favorite franchises of all time, Real Housewives of Atlanta, season 17, episode one, kinda dismal title, a warm welcome. And we're gonna start going over the second episode of Real Housewives of Rhode Island, an ocean state of affairs. Ooh. Kind of dramatic title with a not dramatic episode.

That's okay, it was episode two. And it was still good for being the slower episode. I'm like, if this is their slow episodes, we're still gonna have a good time.

I've missed them so much. They're one of the hottest casts, I gotta say.

I was like, I think she's out of the age bracket, but I wouldn't be mad. I would not be mad. He said, he's rich. Phaedra said, I'm rich. Not Drake rich, Phaedra.

So my first thought was, because right out the gate, we see Charles and Angela Oakley. I was like, just as awkward as ever. Good to see you two. Still, I don't know if y'all like each other, but nice to see you.

Still not getting along. Still just roasting each other's lives.

Uh-huh. Still seems like Charles would rather be anywhere else.

And then he's making up stories now, apparently, about how they uh wound up married.

He did, and they I was I was on Angela's side. I'm like, he will not have her back.

I I didn't really love them last season, but I'm like, okay, I kind of miss them. I'm glad they're on the show. Charles is always good comedic relief, I feel. He has been. That's what I'm like, you know what? Charles is just here to be funny, and I'm okay with that. And talk some shit under his breath, which is also fine.

With Kay Michelle sitting next to him. Oh, yeah. So speaking of new cast member, the one and only Kay Michelle.

The one and only Kay Michelle, love and hip hop veteran, singer, songwriter, star, star, superstar, in my opinion. She has some of the best one-liners in history of her other show that she used to be on, Love and Hip Hop, but I feel she's already created some great ones from this season. Literally. And it's episode one.

I know. I was like, we're gonna have a good season just because of her her brain. And I'm I can't wait. And I really loved that she came in in like the first 10 minutes of the episode. They didn't wait till like, oh, it's the end of the ep. Now we'll bring in the new girls.

Yeah, I love that she was a plot line right away. She's like, I'm an established member, you're gonna treat me as such. We're all gonna be in the came in with her her accent to me, it sounds like Dolly Parton a little bit. I love that. And I love it so much. It's such a like high-pitched country twang, and it's just beautiful, and it's just she could say anything in the world, and it'll sound like she's complimenting you.

Which I loved because all the the white fabric everywhere, and I'm like, this does look like a Netflix movie.

It was creepy, it was like eyes wide shut, though. No offense, Portia. Your house is beautiful.

It is your marital home that you got in your divorce from Simon.

And the girls made sure everyone remembered that.

And I love that the hologram of Simon haunted the mansion as they had the party. And like anytime something would happen, they'd have hologram Simon in the back streeping.

And they'd all be like, Simon! Yes, come out now. It got that jump scared me a few times, by the way.

When they flashed him on the screen, yes.

I was like, ah.

He kind of looked like Zordon from Power Rangers just coming in.

So who else? We got Kelly, Shamia's there. She's back.

She's back. I'm kind of glad to see her back. I like her antics a lot. I liked when she was miming the conversation between her and Portia. I was like, that's all I needed to know.

And I got what she meant.

And I know everything.

She was very good with that. I like Shamia.

SPEAKER_00 5:14

I liked Shamia when she was a friend of the show, even.

Mm-hmm. And she used to get into it with everybody even then. That's when y'all were surprised.

She had Portia's back back then, like nobody else.

SPEAKER_01 5:25

True.

She was a ride or die.

It does make me sad that they're not friends.

It does, because she Portia immediately said, ex best friend.

She said, don't refer to her as my friend.

That is not my friend. But she still invited her over to her dinner, which was nice.

Well, you know, the producers were probably like, well, this is a cast show, an ensemble, so either invite her or you aren't here next season.

So they do have to film and get along.

But they did get along.

Yeah, I think we'll see some kind of reconciliation. I don't think you have that long of a friendship and not reconcile in some way.

And the stuff we've seen for like to come this season didn't really seem like it was between Shemia and Portia to me. At least what I could pick up.

There wasn't much that they flashed that you could pick up though. It was very like brief seconds of each clip.

I was just trying to figure out who's yelling at who.

Who's yelling at who, and somebody's trying to throw hands.

And I can't wait for that.

You know what? Portia was valid to be mad about that one.

Yeah, but she didn't swing back. I know. It was so and she could have. She could have. I mean, they did have to kind of hold her back, but she didn't.

Well, and Kenya pulled her usual Kenyan-ness and was like, security, get off the boat. Oh, speaking of friend of the show, Cynthia Bailey. She said one word this whole episode. I said, Alrighty.

It reminded me of when she first started, and Nene said, and Cynthia was just there. Because I was like, where's Cynthia? She hasn't said nothing.

And I like Cynthia. I need her to. I like when she talks.

I liked when Cynthia was in her prime.

I know. If we just if we could get Nene back, this would be my favorite show again.

Even over Rhode Island, which is new, that's why the nostalgia of Nene being on this show would get you.

You would well, I it's already probably gonna pull for one of my being one of my favorites this season because you have Phaedra, you have Portia, and now you have K Michelle. So you have frickin' Fra back and K Michelle. And K Michelle here. So that could be a good third wheel because she's coming on as friends to Porsche.

I hope they don't beef. Not in the first season.

That can come later, because we don't want to chase K Michelle off the show yet.

She did, and also wearing green, which I really loved when everyone was wearing black. We didn't see a lot of Phaedra.

No, we didn't. And then you didn't see a lot of Drew, other than she pops in to say that her ex is still living under the stairs.

I liked how she said it.

And then she's got a man on FaceTime for apparently three hours.

And like he's sitting there so proper, like he's at like his kitchen island or something with like a nice light on. Who said that? Just sitting so casually. Phaedra, I think.

It was I thought so too. Who's like, he's got a ring light on?

Yes. And I was just like, oh my god, I just can't imagine sitting there so awkwardly for three hours while I stare at everyone, like as they go about dinner and activities.

And you can't participate in the conversation, you just sat there.

I mean, I hope if y'all are getting it, I mean, I guess go off. Whatever makes you happy, Drew.

Yeah, but I don't think I would invite that type of situation to the party.

Not while Ralph is under the stairs.

Not while Ralph's under the stairs, but also I just don't think I would make my situationship or my friend friend my new favorite term.

And I kind of felt the same way about Portia bringing out her guy.

And uh so did everyone else, because the eyes they all started giving each other had tears in my eyes from laughter. It was Kelly, Shemia, everyone was just looking at each other like, mm-hmm, Portia, we caught that you just said you met him at the same time as Simon.

Or a little bit after, even. Because they said didn't she meet Simon before COVID?

SPEAKER_01 10:41

Yeah, because he remembered he was on the show. He was married to somebody else.

SPEAKER_00 10:45

That's true.

And so that's when they first met. And then they got together during COVID time. So around the same time.

But I do like that she said she was thirst trapping and she knew she would get someone.

That's what she said, and I was like, that used to mean something else, Portia, but I get what you mean, and I like it. And she's not wrong, because it clearly worked, because she had this guy at dinner, and then did you see next week? Little preview?

And it's a woman.

And then Lauren, her sister, was there at the dinner. Looking hot. They both look great.

They stepped their shit up. And you know what it was, they're gonna be like, let's remind everyone who's really number one.

Honestly, they always bring it every season.

Yeah, there's been, you know, seasons where you're like, oh, I don't need to watch that again, but there's never a bad season, if that makes sense.

And then when you compare it to other shows, Beverly Hills, right, season 15, you're like, oof.

Beverly Hills, you really were slow when we compare it.

Yeah, because we've already had everyone to the point that they've made up, so we're gonna get to watch them all rip each other apart again.

The shade was there. When Drew told K Michelle, aren't you a singer? Did you used to be a singer? I was surprised K Michelle and Ripper.

Uh-huh. And I my jaw was on the floor because I'm like, Drew, you're trying to be a singer. And you're gonna go to K Michelle and say, You aren't did you used to be a singer?

K Michelle is one of the most well-known singers.

And she's doing a country album now. I need to go listen to this and see.

I feel like the dinner party kind of wraps up. We have Portia's friend, friend Mike, kind of exit everyone out of the house, which I thought was hilarious to have some other man exit your like guest out of your marriage.

Husband's home. The man you've been on one date with. Haven't hadn't even kissed yet.

And I don't know if we're seeing him again, because I'm pretty sure Porsche's still with that woman that we see in the next episode.

I love that. That's one of the internet's favorite moments. People say that without knowing it's Portia from Housewives. And it deserves it because it was so good. Who said that? And it's Portia. And it's uh She said, me. Yeah, Sheree's like, okay, well, Portia. I miss Sheree, by the way.
